SHIATSU MASSAGE

At Pain Be Gone, we value the diversity in our modality offering. That is why, when the opportunity arises we are keen in bringing in new practitioners with different skills and knowledge that can help our valued patients find the perfect match for their needs.

WHAT IS SHIATSU?

Shiatsu comes from the Japanese words “Shi” (fingers) and “Atsu” (pressure)—a simple definition that hints at a deeply powerful healing art.

Originating in Japan and rooted in ancient Eastern philosophies, Shiatsu is a holistic bodywork practice designed to restore balance within the body and mind. Rather than treating isolated symptoms, it works on the whole person—supporting the body’s natural ability to heal, regulate, and thrive.

A Holistic Approach to Wellbeing

Shiatsu is more than a treatment—it’s an experience that reconnects you with your body.

Through mindful, targeted pressure along energy pathways known as meridians, Shiatsu helps to:

  • Rebalance the body’s vital energy

  • Release physical tension and stiffness

  • Support emotional wellbeing

  • Enhance body awareness and mindfulness

Each session is tailored to the individual, encouraging a deeper understanding of your lifestyle, habits, and overall health.

A Shiatsu treatment takes place on a comfortable futon on the floor, following traditional Japanese practice. You remain fully clothed throughout the session.

Using a combination of:

  • Gentle yet firm pressure (fingers, palms, elbows, knees)

  • Assisted stretching

  • Joint mobilization

  • Relaxation techniques

The practitioner works across the entire body to stimulate circulation, release blockages, and promote deep relaxation.

No oils, creams, or external tools are used—just skilled, intentional touch.

Sessions typically last around one hour, allowing your body the time it needs to unwind, reset, and restore.

Who is Shiatsu For?

Shiatsu is suitable for everyone—regardless of age, fitness level, or physical condition.

It can be particularly helpful for:

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Muscle tension and contractures

  • Joint pain and stiffness

  • Stress, anxiety, and low mood

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Digestive imbalance

By supporting the body’s natural rhythms—such as sleep cycles, digestion, and hormonal balance—Shiatsu encourages long-term wellbeing, not just temporary relief.

More Than a Treatment—A Human Connection

Shiatsu is a dialogue without words.

In traditional terms, the practitioner (Tori) and receiver (Uke) create a shared space of awareness and trust. Through this connection, the treatment becomes more than physical—it becomes an exchange of energy, intention, and care.

Many describe Shiatsu as deeply relaxing, grounding, and unexpectedly transformative.

Preparing for Your Session

To get the most out of your treatment:

  • Wear or bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (including socks)

  • Choose garments that cover the body fully

  • It’s recommended to change before and after your session
